The purpose of this experiment is to better understand China today, reflect on China’s changing global role and in a small way hold up a mirror to China’s national identity. Commenting on other countries comes easily. But when the focus is turned on your own country, culture, practices – comfort levels shift. If Chinese designers, thinkers and artists had the opportunity to run similar experiments in other countries – which countries would they choose? What questions would they ask? What taboos would they challenge? And what would they learn about themselves?
