There’s nothing quite like a Sunday morning spent with a motorbike, a driver and in the more sensitive areas of Dahiyeh – a Hezbollah minder. The latter keeping a watchful eye on where the camera was pointing, his authority extended to people in proximity by the highly visible antenna of his walkie talkie. All very friendly, but for the urban photographer a wee bit claustrophobic, tour-like.

Thought for today on this lush Beirut evening: Hezbollah’s desire to limit what photos are taken in the neighbourhoods under their control; and
your rights or otherwise to take a photograph on the New York MRT. The positive and negative consequences of each form of restriction?
