It’s difficult to photograph scrubland desert, and even trickier to document a hole/crater from ground level – hence photographing a hole in the desert is doubly-awkward.

But the light emanating from the burning crater is another story – lighting up the surrounding dunes – including this wayfinding marker (above), en route to our desert camp.
