Medan: containment

For our field study in Medan, Indonesia we rented someones newly built, not-yet-moved-into home for a week. A rather nice setup since you ask – even if the layout made it difficult to bring everyone together for team meetings. Most upscale Indonesian homes come with their own live-in security/caretaker which you might imagine would be enough to keep the place secure. Although one additional security practice was in place – on the ground floor all rooms ajoining the living room were locked from the outside on the assumption that break-ins were common and would need to be contained.

A small observation for this monday morning: the prevalence of USB key fob friendly storage devices; what is stored or left on these devices; and where those keys are kept when they are not in use.
