Mass-Localised / Post-Globalised

Oman: preferred audio media format

Ducked into a local media store to stock up on local tunes for an off-road trip in Oman – 90% of the content for sale is local/regional music and nearly all is put out on cassette (which explains the cassette recorder in the rental then). When you look at the photos below it’s easy to focus on the age of the technology, but the practice of producing locally is simultaneously from the past and perhaps indicative of a post-globalised future – where mass-localisation filters down to local workshops. Yeah, the future is unevenly distributed.
