Minka Textures

Ojika: minka textures

Spent the last week dotting off the tip of Japan on Ojika and Yakushima both pretty magical places in very different ways. Ojika has a number of reformed minka – traditional houses that have been rebuilt/reformed using traditional methods. I’m always intrigued what hosts decide to include in a rental home – this one managed to find the right balance between traditional and the mod-cons that urban Japanese take for granted – particularly when it comes to bathing norms. Red tin opener – instantly familar to any Japanese, alien to many others.

And this loving video on reforming minka via Craig, who is own minka-journey.
