Lijiang: multi-modal maps
 

A very contemporary situation – trying to negotiate with today’s driver to take us from Lijiang to a village in the nearby mountains using the only accurate map to hand – a cached Google map on an iPad. With no connectivity and a rapidly draining battery life – the very real fear that any kind of interaction with the screen will reload the page and trash the map creating headaches for the rest of the journey. The iPad has many positive traits, persistence is not one of them.
