Shanghai: peasant innovators
 

Lovely inaugural exhibition at the Rockbund Art Museum on the so-called ‘peasant da vincis’ shares its origins with the jugaad in India, the street hacks around the world with a health dose of folly thrown in for good measure. The exhibition works on a number of levels: as a celebration of Chinese innovation and quirks in the setting of a just-renovated 1930’s Deco building; and includes an atrium with its own flock of birds that spend most of their time resting on the aeronautical exhibits.
